My husband and I have been following a ketogenic lifestyle for nearly three years now. Before embarking on this journey, we faced some health challenges ourselves. We often found ourselves feeling fatigued, and my husband’s cholesterol levels were quite high. At times, it reached a point where he experienced symptoms like dizziness and discomfort.
One morning, I noticed my husband wasn’t acting like himself, and it was quite alarming for both me and my daughter. We realized we needed to take action. We’ve always enjoyed our treats and cooking delicious meals together. I’ve always loved cooking and have never been particular about the types of ingredients I use. It came to the point where we seriously considered taking him to the emergency room. It was a wake-up call for all of us, prompting us to realize the need for change in our lives.
Previously, we had followed the Atkins diet, and it was effective for us. However, we discontinued it once we discovered we were expecting. After I gave birth to my child, my passion for food truly took off, and I found immense joy in cooking and exploring new recipes. Additionally, having worked in the restaurant industry, I have a wealth of knowledge and ideas that make experimenting with different dishes incredibly exciting.
You can imagine the contrast I faced—food has always been a source of joy for me, yet my health was not in the best shape. Absolutely, I still harness my creativity to find solutions that work for both of us. So, we shifted our focus to a low-carb lifestyle and decided to embrace the ketogenic diet.
After a couple of months, my husband lost a significant amount of weight, and his feelings of fatigue have greatly diminished. The improvement in our health has been evident. We both began to feel better physically, and it positively impacted our mental well-being as well.
By nature, I have a strong desire to learn new things, and there is so much to discover within the ketogenic lifestyle.
Most keto diets recommend consuming about 20 to 50 grams of net carbohydrates per day. “Net carbs” are calculated by subtracting fiber and certain sugar alcohols from the total carbohydrates.
At first, we really struggled when we experienced the symptoms of keto flu.It took us approximately 4 to 5 days to regain our equilibrium. From that point on, it transformed into our way of life.
There’s so much to discuss about our journey since we began, and I can’t wait to share it with you, especially if you’re curious about whether this diet might be the right fit for you.
